On September 18, Fang Hong, Dean of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, led a team to the College of Science, Nanjing Forestry University for special research. The two sides exchanged ideas on the application and development of the Master’s Degree Program in Applied Statistics, the organization of mathematical modeling contests, and the teaching reform of general basic courses. Peng Hongjun, Dean of the College of Science, Nanjing Forestry University, Zhu Min, Vice Dean, and relevant faculty members attended the forum.

At the forum, Dean Peng Hongjun introduced the overall profile of the College of Science, Nanjing Forestry University, as well as its progress in discipline development, faculty building and talent cultivation. Afterwards, both sides held in-depth discussions on the construction of the Master’s Degree Program in Applied Statistics, organization of mathematical modeling contests and teaching of general basic courses. Song Fei shared experience in the application and development of the Master’s Degree Program in Applied Statistics, covering talent training, curriculum system, faculty team and practical teaching. Chen Lei introduced the operation of mathematical modeling contests, student training and the development of advisor teams. Song Weiling presented practices concerning the organization, construction and reform of general basic courses. Dean Fang Hong briefed the participants on discipline development, talent training and key initiatives of the School of Mathematics and Statistics. Combining their respective school-running realities, the two parties conducted thorough discussions on professional degree talent training, curriculum and faculty development, the education mechanism of mathematical modeling contests, and teaching reform of general basic courses.

This research activity has further deepened mutual understanding between the two colleges, offering valuable references for our school to advance the development of the degree program, strengthen the organization of mathematical modeling contests and deepen the teaching reform of general basic courses. The School will fully draw on insights from this visit, integrate experience with its own conditions, further improve the talent training system, advance education and teaching reform, enhance students’ innovative and practical capabilities, and continuously improve the quality of talent cultivation and school-running standards.
