Physics Department

The University Physics Teaching and Research Department has 15 faculty members, including 7 associate professors and 9 PhDs. The teaching team is dominated by young and middle-aged teachers, full of vigor and vitality.

The department is responsible for teaching university physics theory and laboratory courses for all science and engineering students, as well as general physics courses. It guides students to actively participate in physics competitions and innovation and entrepreneurship programs, and they have won many outstanding achievements. By the end of 2023, our students have won 16 first prizes, 27 second prizes, and 84 third prizes in the national part of the national university student physics competition in Shanghai. Shanghai University Students' Physics Academic Competition has 3 first, 3 second and 3 third prizes for groups and 4 individual student prizes. 2 second prizes, 2 third prizes and 1 individual student award in the National Academic Physics Competition for University Students. 3 third prizes in the National Physics Experiment Competition for University Students in 2023. The department has also performed well in the Electronic Design Competition for Shanghai University Students (TI Cup) and the Challenge Cup China University Students' Entrepreneurship Program Competition. In the past three years, the department has supervised 8 municipal projects and 25 university projects.

All faculty members are actively engaged in scientific research while accomplishing various teaching tasks and guiding students in competitions with quality and quantity. In the past three years, we have published 7 SCI papers. 2023 the research fund arrives at 1.16 million.

In the process of actively exploring teaching reform, one textbook of University Physics Experiment was published. 2022 University Physics B course was approved as a university course of thought and politics leading course and a university key course (online and offline blended course). 2023 University Physics B course was approved as a key course in Shanghai.

Recently, Ministry of Education announced the results of filing and approval of undergraduate's degree programs in ordinary schools of higher education in 2023, and the undergraduate program of applied physics was approved by the Ministry of Education for filing. All the teachers of the department will take this opportunity to continue to deepen the teaching reform, strengthen the construction of the specialty, continuously improve the quality of teaching, and commit themselves to contributing more to the internal construction of the university and the development of high-level university of applied sciences.

The University Physics Department also has a program in Optometry Technology, which began in 2014 with a 3+2 year secondary and higher vocational programs, i.e., 3 years of secondary school and 2 years of higher vocational programs. The program includes ophthalmology, optometry examination technology, contact lens fitting technology, binocular vision abnormality management technology, low vision assistive technology, as well as certification courses such as optician (senior) and spectacle fitter (senior).

We have actively explored the teaching reform with fruitful results: in 2014, we were awarded the title of Shanghai Teaching Team; in 2020, we were awarded the Excellent Organization Award of Shanghai Optical Association Skills Competition; in 2021, Deepening Cooperation between Schools and Enterprises and Assisting Optometric Talents Cultivation was awarded the Second Prize of School-Level Teaching Achievements. In terms of curriculum construction: Contact Lens Fitting Technology was honored as Shanghai Fine Course in 2013; Binocular Vision Abnormalities Handling Technology was honored as a key course at school level in 2018; Optometrists - Advanced was honored as a key course at school level in 2022, and Ophthalmic Disease was honored as a school level course of Civic and Political Pilot Course.

Deepening school-enterprise cooperation, helping optometry talents training. The introduction of enterprises into Education has enabled enterprises to participate deeply in all aspects of optometry education and teaching, and to participate in various ways in teaching programs, curriculum construction, development of teaching materials, internships and practical training, etc., so as to promote the integration of enterprise needs into all aspects of talent cultivation, and the employment and contracting rates have been 100% for many years in a row.
