The Department of Statistics in the School of Mathematics,Physics and Statistics was organized in August 2022, and its predecessor was the Department of Applied Statistics. The Department of Statistics has 13 faculty members, including 2 professors, 4 associate professors and 9 PhDs. In the past three years, it has published more than 20 high-level academic papers in important journals at home and abroad, and has presided over 10 scientific research projects at or above the university level or horizontal scientific research projects, with about 1 million yuan of funds in hand.

All teachers are actively involved in undergraduate teaching and student competition guidance, and conduct research on talent cultivation mode and course teaching methods. In the past three years, they have undertaken 9 teaching research projects, published more than 10 teaching research papers, won 4 Shanghai key courses, 5 school-level key courses and quality courses, and won 4 awards in Shanghai teaching competitions.

The Department of Statistics consists of Applied Statistics and Economic Statistics majors. The distinctive programs are based on the school's orientation of cultivating applied innovative talents, the principle of staggered competition, and the market demand in Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta Region, which form the distinctive programs of our statistics program. That is to say, to cultivate statistical knowledge, computer ability and comprehensive quality to develop in a comprehensive and coordinated manner, and to have strong quantitative analysis and modeling ability in statistics.

In the process of talent cultivation, the Department of Statistics is based on the structure of the knowledge-capability-quality three-in-one talent cultivation model; optimizing the curriculum system based on the principles of thick foundation, wide-caliber, heavy cross-cutting, directional, modular; and carrying out teaching reform based on the concept of theory-based, practice-oriented, innovative soul. Based on the principle of thick foundation, wide aperture, heavy cross-cutting, direction and modularization, the department optimizes the curriculum system; and carries out teaching reform based on the concept of theory as the foundation, practice as the basis and innovation as the soul. At the same time, based on morality education, we adhere to the principle of unifying value leadership, knowledge transfer and ability cultivation. We seriously organize students to participate in social practice, innovation and entrepreneurship activities, strongly support students to participate in various academic and scientific and technological cultural activities, and encourage academic innovation. Since the establishment of the Department of Statistics, students have won a total of 12 national awards in academic competitions and 10 awards in Shanghai. The graduates are generally welcomed by the society and employers, and the employment rate of the graduates is steadily at the forefront of the university.
